Plant galls
Galls are abnormal growths of plant tissue, induced by insects, mites, fungi or bacteria that live and feed inside them. Their shape is often so specific that the gall-causing organism can be identified from the gall alone.
The fourteen sets of this sub-collection show galls on leaves, twigs and wood, some of them together with the insects that induce them. They were donated by Ursula Käser from the teaching collection of the Campus Muristalden.
