Timber and wood collections
Timber collections consist of small, standardised wood samples of different tree species. They allow wood properties such as colour, grain and structure to be compared side by side, and were widely used for teaching and for identifying traded timber.
This sub-collection includes two Brazilian timber collections with mostly tropical species, labelled with their vernacular names, as well as European timber collections and teaching material on wood anatomy. Where the species could be determined, the samples have been linked to their accepted botanical name.
